Geauga County Commissioners’ meetings are normally held throughout the year every Tuesday morning at 9:00 a.m. at 470 Center Street, Building #4, Chardon, Commissioners’ Chambers.  Notice will be provided whenever a regularly scheduled commissioners’ meeting is to be held at another location, an additional special meeting is scheduled, or a regularly scheduled meeting is cancelled.  Please contact our office at 440-279-1660 between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on weekdays if you have any questions about a specific commissioners’ meeting or our schedule.

The Board of Commissioners are the taxing, budgeting, appropriating and purchasing authority for county government.  They hold title to county property, along with hearing and ruling on annexations, road vacations, along with approving drainage improvements, and establishing water and sewer districts.

The Board of Commissioners serve on many boards, including the Board of Revision, the County Records Commission and the Planning Commission.

Today County Commissioners are key players in bringing new business and industry to the community along with keeping established employers from moving away.  County Commissioners also have the responsibility of delivering the bulk of human services to adults and children through limited resources and funding from both the State and Federal Government.  In addition, they oversee the funding of alcohol, drug abuse and mental health services, the enforcement of child-support orders and protecting abused and neglected children.

County Commissioners are responsible for environmental protection measures by ensuring safe drinking water and administering sewage treatment plants.  In addition, are involved in solid waste management, consumer recycling and industrial site clean up.
