General Information

Ground was broken August 31, 1967 for Geauga County Airport which was then officially opened September 29, 1968 as part of an initiative of then Governor James Rhodes. His vision was to have an airport in every county of Ohio. Middlefield Chamber of Commerce President Glade Harrison organized an effort to raise $20,000.00 to purchase the 41-acre site and then donate the property to the County.

In the early 1990's the Geauga County Airport Authority was formed to manage the facility. Since then, several FAA and ODOT grants have been received to improve the runway, paving, and lighting as well as obstruction removal.

Current facilities include one runway 3500' long by 65' wide. Runway numbers are 11 on the west end and 29 on the east end. Two T-hangars, one private hangar, two community hangars, a pilot lounge and restroom facility make up the buildings on the site. Call sign is 7G8 and Geauga County Airport is also home to Experimental Aircraft Assoc. Chapter 5.

Future plans include additional T-hangars and a paved parallel taxiway.
