The Primary Functions the Department of Information Technology Serves
Software Development
The software development team is responsible for maintaining in-house software applications. The Department of Information Technology develops software customized to the needs of the end users. The software development team also advises and supports the purchase of software. In addition, the programmers develop and maintain web applications and web pages for the Geauga County website (www.co.geauga.oh.us) and intranet site.
System Support
The system support team handles the day-to-day operation in the data center such as system maintenance, back-ups, and batch processing for approximately forty different county agencies. The Department of Information Technology administers and supports local area networks (LAN). In addition, the department connects wide area network (WAN) to the county offices located at 470 Center Street and to the offices located at the Ravenwood/Merritt Road area. The team also advises the purchase of hardware, and installs, connects, and maintains the equipment on the countywide network. Hosting and administering servers in the data center is another function. Last, the software support team manages and supports a help desk for all computer related problems in the mainframe and PC environments. The services provided by the the Department of Information Technology provide data sharing and resource compatibility for centralizing county computing services.
